Standard Specification for Free-Cutting Brass Rod, Bar and Shapes for Use in Screw Machines
This specification covers the requirements for UNS C86300, C90500, C91100, C91300, or C93700 bronze alloy castings for turntables, movable bridges, and bridge parts. This specification also includes bronze castings made from the same copper alloys that are suitable for use in bridges and other structures for fixed and expansion bearings in which motion is slow and intermittent. Each product should be manufactured by casting to produce a uniform finished product. Castings made from the UNS C86300 copper alloy should be subjected to Brinell hardness, tension, and compression tests while those made from UNS C91100 and C91300 should be subjected to compression tests. UNS C90500 copper alloy castings should undergo tension tests. All mechanical properties like deformation limit in compression, hardness, and yield strength are determined from separately cast test bars and should conform to the specified requirements.
MATERIALS
C62300: This copper alloy consists of approximately 88.6% copper, 9% tin, and 2.4% lead. It exhibits good corrosion resistance and excellent machinability. With moderate strength and wear resistance, it finds application in various fittings, valves, and pump components.
C63000: Also known as aluminum bronze, C63000 contains around 81% copper, 10% aluminum, and 9% iron. Offering high strength, excellent wear resistance, and superb corrosion resistance in various environments, it is commonly used for bushings, bearings, gears, and valve components.
C63200: This high-strength copper alloy comprises approximately 97% copper, 1.70% nickel, and 0.80% silicon. It demonstrates exceptional electrical conductivity, good thermal conductivity, and excellent resistance to stress relaxation. Sought after for electrical connectors, electronic components, and terminals due to its low contact resistance.
C64200: Featuring around 98.2% copper, 1% lead, and 0.8% tin, C64200 exhibits excellent machinability, wear resistance, and moderate strength. It is primarily employed in electrical connectors, switch parts, and other applications requiring good electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance.
C64210: This copper alloy encompasses approximately 87.5% copper, 10% lead, and 2.5% tin. With improved machinability and moderate strength, it is utilized in balls, bushings, and valve components, emphasizing its anti-seizure properties and resistance to wear in lubricated systems. It finds particular use in the automotive and machinery industries.
Copper Profiles
Copper profiles are commonly used in distribution panels and switchboards delivering key electrical advantages. Profiles are more expensive and difficult to manufacture than flat bars due to the technical requirements such as they provide a more fragile production process, more complicated packaging, and a complex design. Although the profile offers a more detailed process, its unique design enables the manufacturer to meet the demands of individual projects.
Typically, Copper profiles are used in power and electrical engineering, onshore and offshore wind power, mechanical engineering, and supply equipment. Copper profiles are an effective way to reduce the weight of Copper conductors in an existing product. Profiles also allow for flexible designing and can meet the requirements for exact designs in individual jobs. Profiles can be designed to allow fast, hole-free assembly and jointing, which can significantly reduce the time required to assemble bars in a cabinet, improving consistency and quality. Due to the increased surface area of the Copper, the profile can assist in the heat dispersion as the larger shapes and sizes increase the conductivity.
